About

Zsuzsanna Maraz is a Hungarian ultrarunner and mother of seven who stands as the most decorated athlete in her country's history in the sport, and one of Europe's foremost long-road ultra specialists. She won the Spartathlon — the 246-kilometre Athens-to-Sparta road race regarded as one of the most historic and demanding ultras in the world — twice consecutively: in 2018 in a time of 27:04, and again in 2019, arriving at those victories through a patient progression of podium finishes: third in 2016 and second in 2017. She has won the Ultrabalaton — the 221-kilometre circumnavigation of Hungary's largest lake — four times (2015, 2016, 2017, and 2020), and was named Ultrarunner of the Year in Hungary in each of the three seasons from 2016 to 2018. She finished second female and eighth overall at the Chianti Ultra Trail 100K in 2022, demonstrating that her abilities extend from the road ultra format into mountain trail racing. Maraz is widely recognised as one of the faces of Hungarian endurance sport and a symbol of what sustained excellence in long-distance running looks like beyond the typical competitive window — an athlete who has combined elite international performance with raising a large family over a decade of racing at the sport's highest level.
