About
Yeray Durán López is a Spanish trail runner born in 1977 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, who grew up hiking the volcanic terrain of the Canary Islands and became one of the most internationally travelled and respected Spanish mountain ultra runners of the mid-2010s. A The North Face athlete, Durán reached the top five at the CCC-UTMB in 2013 — one of the world's most competitive 100km mountain races — after winning the Canary Islands Championship and finishing third at the Ultra Transgrancanaria that same year. In 2015 he took third at the Lavaredo Ultra Trail, and in 2016 delivered his most internationally consistent season: second at the TDS-UTMB (the 145km race from Courmayeur to Chamonix), fifth at the Vibram Hong Kong 100k, and sixth at the Skyrunning World Championships ultra distance — a range that placed him among the top ten mountain ultra runners in the world that year. He won the Ultra Trail Norte de Gran Canaria 51km outright in 5:17:48. An articulate voice in the Spanish trail running community, Durán has spoken frequently about the psychological demands of ultra racing and about the cultural role that trail running plays beyond its origins as a single-sport discipline.
