About

Wataru Iino is a Japanese ultrarunner and endurance adventurer born around 1981 who began running while working as an automotive design engineer in Germany, discovering mountain trails with German colleagues before dedicating himself fully to the sport. His competitive résumé spans continents: he won the Namib Desert Race (250 km, Namibia) in 2016 and the iconic Badwater 135 (217 km, Death Valley, California) in 2017. He subsequently left corporate life for an ambitious multi-year exploration project, culminating in a 2024 record for running the full length of the Americas — from Alaska south to Ushuaia, Argentina — covering 15,500 miles (25,000 km) in under 300 days and eclipsing the previous record using just two pairs of running shoes. He continues his 'Trans Atlas' project, aiming to traverse all five continents on foot.
