About

Virginie Govignon is a French trail runner born in 1978 in Burgundy who discovered competitive mountain running while living in Brest, drawing on a background that included basketball, rowing, and martial arts. She committed to trail racing in earnest in 2009 upon joining the Trail Lafuma France team and almost immediately performed at the highest level: in 2011 she won the CCC by UTMB — the 100 km race from Courmayeur to Chamonix — finishing in 12 hours 47 minutes. The same year she won the Drôme Trail and the Ultra-Technitrail de Tiranges, and she won the Salomon Skyrunner France Series overall in 2014. A senior lecturer in Life and Earth Sciences, she has taught at the Comte de Foix high school in Andorra, where she also trains on the country's steep mountain terrain, and has pursued photography and aerial drone work.
