About
Vaidas Žlabys is a Lithuanian trail runner born on December 13, 1986, who is both one of his country's most accomplished international competitors and a central figure in building the trail running movement in Lithuania from the ground up. A La Sportiva athlete with a UTMB Index of 743 and a marathon personal best of 2:30:20 — set in Ottawa in May 2017 — he has competed at the highest level of European trail racing, including a second-place finish at the Transgrancanaria 2017, one of the most competitive 125km mountain races on the European calendar and a result that stands among the highest-placing performances ever achieved by a Lithuanian at a major international trail event. He founded the Lietuvos trail akademija (Lithuanian Trail Academy), bringing structured running education and community to a sport still in its development phase in Lithuania, and he organizes trail events that have raised the country's profile in the broader European trail running world. In 2026 he won the Vilnius Trail Run 108km in 10:10:49, demonstrating that his competitive edge remains sharp at the elite level. With one foot in elite international racing and another in community building and coaching, Žlabys is a dual ambassador whose influence on Lithuanian trail running extends well beyond his personal results.
