About
Ulrich Gross is an Italian ultrarunner from Merano (Meran) in South Tyrol, born around 1972. A member of Italy's ultra-marathon national team, he claimed one of the sport's most dramatic victories at the inaugural Tor des Géants in September 2010 — a 330 km non-stop circumnavigation of the Aosta Valley beneath four great Alpine massifs (Mont Blanc, Monte Rosa, Gran Paradiso, and the Matterhorn) with 24,000 m of cumulative elevation gain. Gross completed the course in 80 hours 27 minutes and 23 seconds, nearly halving the race's 150-hour maximum cutoff. The race was also a remarkable family affair: his sister Anne-Marie Gross won the inaugural women's category at the same event. Gross has continued competing in Alpine ultra events through the 2020s, accumulating a UTMB Index above 600.
