About

Travis Wildeboer is one of the rare ultrarunners to have completed the Barkley Marathons — one of the world's most notorious and secretive endurance events, set in the steep, briar-filled mountains around Frozen Head State Park in Tennessee — finishing in 2013 in 58:41 to become the 14th finisher in the race's history. Wildeboer arrived at the start with extraordinary preparation: he and his wife spent the preceding winter living out of a camper, travelling across North America to train on some of the continent's most demanding terrain, including the Grand Canyon's Kaibab Trail and the Cog Trail at the base of Pikes Peak. Before Barkley, he had established himself as a premier FKT runner, setting the unsupported record on Vermont's Long Trail — the 272-mile traverse from Massachusetts to Canada — in 6 days, 17 hours, and 25 minutes, as well as a record on the Colorado Trail. His multi-modal approach — combining long-trail FKT traverses, technical mountain racing, and classic ultra formats — places him in the tradition of the ultra-ultra runner who measures achievement across the full spectrum of what endurance on trails can mean.
