About
Tom Evans is a former British Army officer turned elite ultrarunner whose transition from military career to podium finishes at the world's most prestigious races is one of the sport's great stories. Born in 1992 in Sussex, he played rugby at a high level — including in the England schoolboys setup and trials for Harlequins — before joining the British Army at 18. He trained at Sandhurst and served with the Welsh Guards, rising to become one of the youngest captains in the British Army. A drunken bet with a colleague prompted him to enter the Marathon des Sables in 2017; he finished 3rd on debut, signaling what was to come. Wins at CCC 2018, Tarawera 100K, and a string of other major races followed, before knee surgery sidelined him in 2021. He returned to form with 3rd at UTMB 2022, then claimed Western States 100 in 2023 with his trademark final-miles surge, and crowned his career with victory at UTMB Mont-Blanc 2025. Evans is married to British elite triathlete Sophie Coldwell and is an adidas athlete based in London.
