About
Thibaut Baronian (born 12 January 1989 in Ambilly, Haute-Savoie) is a French trail runner and physiotherapist who arrived at the sport through competitive cross-country skiing, competing at events including the 2007 European Youth Olympic Festival in Jaca before leaving competitive sport to study physiotherapy in Besançon. Training on the trails around Besançon introduced him to trail running, and after several years of building his competitive base he emerged as one of France's strongest mountain ultra talents. The Salomon and Julbo-sponsored athlete's major results include 3rd at CCC by UTMB in 2021, 3rd at Zegama-Aizkorri in 2019 (the best French time that year, behind only Kilian Jornet and Bart Przedwojewski), 3rd in the 2022 Golden Trail World Series season standings, the French Short Trail Championship title in 2023, and 2nd at Marathon du Mont-Blanc 90km in 2024. Beyond racing he has pursued humanitarian and environmental running projects including an FKT traverse of the Cape Verde islands for charitable causes. His UTMB Index of 893 places him firmly among Europe's mountain ultra elite.
