About
Takashi Doi (土井陵) is one of Japan's most celebrated trail and ultrarunning athletes, a figure whose career has spanned the domestic Japanese racing circuit and major international events across more than a decade. He announced his arrival at the highest level with an 11th-place finish at UTMB 2015 and has since combined elite ultra-trail racing with some of Asia's most demanding self-supported challenges. His defining performance came at the 2022 Trans Japan Alps Race (TJAR) — a 415km self-supported crossing of Japan from the Sea of Japan to the Pacific, traversing the Northern, Central, and Southern Alps — which he completed in a course record of 4 days, 17 hours, and 33 minutes, beating the previous record by more than 6 hours. That same year he was runner-up at Ultra-Trail Mount Fuji (UTMF) 165km. He has also won the Deep Japan Ultra 100 (165km) in 2023, the Hiroshima Wangan Trail Run 109km in 2024, and placed 4th at the Hong Kong Four Trails Ultra Challenge (298km) in 2020. His UTMB Index is 797.
