About
Simen Hjalmar Wästlund is a Swedish orienteer and trail runner who has emerged as one of Europe's most exciting ultrarunning talents. He transitioned from competitive orienteering — competing at international level for Sweden — into trail and mountain ultra racing, a move that paid dividends rapidly. His most prominent international result to date is second place at the 2023 TDS by UTMB — a 145km route through Italy, Switzerland, and France — where he led for the first 90 kilometres before being passed by eventual winner Christian Meier in the high mountains, finishing in 19:57:41. A versatile performer across all mountain distances, he won the 100k at Sweden's Fjällmaraton on his debut at that distance, placed 3rd at Tarawera Ultra-Trail by UTMB 2025, and competed at the Trail World Championships 80k. His UTMB Index of 829 places him among the world's top trail runners. A member of the Pro Trail Runners Association, Wästlund continues to build one of Scandinavia's most compelling ultrarunning careers.
