About
Silvia Ainhoa Trigueros Garrote is a Spanish trail runner from Abadiño in the Basque Country who only took up running at 33 after the birth of her children, initially as a way to stay fit, and discovered almost immediately that she possessed an extraordinary and near-inexhaustible endurance gift. She entered her first mountain half-marathon in 2009, ran her first ultra just one year later, and became Spanish ultra-trail champion in 2014 on a trajectory few athletes who began the sport so late have ever matched. She has won the Tor des Géants — the 330km traverse of the Italian Alps with 28,000m of elevation gain — three times (2018, 2019, 2021), setting the women's course record in 2019 in 85:23:15 and becoming the first person to win the race three times consecutively; no other woman has won it more. Equally dominant at home in the Basque Country, she won the Ehunmilak Ultra-Trail six consecutive times across a career that remains remarkable both for its breadth and for how late it began.
