About
Ryan Smith is one of the most respected and consistent figures in American ultrarunning, a Scot who grew up north of London, studied at the University of Edinburgh, and eventually settled in Boulder, Colorado — where he co-founded Rocky Mountain Runners and became a fixture on the mountain ultra circuit. A La Sportiva athlete with a reputation for toughness (he had never DNF'd through much of his career), Smith made his biggest mark at Leadville Trail 100 in 2019, winning in 16:33:25 with a margin of nearly 90 minutes. He has also recorded significant results at UTMB (8th in 2015), Hardrock 100 (3rd in 2021), and Sean O'Brien 100K. Beyond racing, he has posted the second-fastest supported Bob Graham Round, an iconic 42-peak circuit of the English Lake District. A coach and community builder as much as a racer, Smith brings a quiet competitiveness and deep love of mountain running to everything he does.
