About

Ryan Sandes (born March 10, 1982, Cape Town) is South Africa's most decorated trail and ultra runner and a long-time Red Bull athlete. In 2010 he became the first competitor to win all four 4 Deserts races — 250-kilometre self-supported epics through the Atacama, Gobi, Sahara, and Antarctica — and in 2013 became the first person to win an ultra trail race on all seven continents. He won the Leadville 100 (2011) and Western States 100 (2017) and, with partner Ryno Griesel, set FKTs on the 209-kilometre Drakensberg Grand Traverse (41h 49m, 2014) and the 1,504-kilometre Great Himalaya Trail (24 days 4 hours, 2018). His biography, Trail Blazer, was published in 2016.
