About
Rosanna Buchauer is a German trail runner born on May 3, 1990 in the Bavarian Alps who moved to Innsbruck, Austria for her university studies and never returned, finding in the Tyrolean mountains both a home and a competitive arena that transformed her from a recreational athlete into one of the most rapidly-improving elites on the European ultra circuit. She came to running from a speed skating background and did not fully commit to ultramarathon competition until her late twenties — she has acknowledged feeling that she was starting late at 28 — but the self-doubt proved unfounded. Her breakthrough year was 2022, when she won the Eiger Ultra Trail 50km in a course record and finished fifth at the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships; she matched that fifth place the following year. Racing for Näak, her 2024 season was her finest: she won the Lavaredo Ultra Trail 120km and the Grossglockner Trail, and finished third at the CCC® by UTMB, confirming her place in the first tier of European mountain ultra runners. She ran her first Western States 100 in 2025 and added second place at the Chianti Ultra Trail. She maintained part-time work alongside elite racing until 2024, when she committed to running professionally.
