About
Born in 1969 in Cornale di Pradalunga in the Bergamo area of Lombardy and residing in Gandino, Oliviero Bosatelli is a professional firefighter who became one of the greatest ever competitors at the Tor des Géants — the 330km monster race through the Aosta Valley with 24,000m of elevation gain. Nicknamed 'Popeye' by fans for his stocky build and extraordinary endurance, he is renowned for managing sleep deprivation, maintaining a metronomic pace across mountain terrain, and outlasting rivals through patience and tactical intelligence. He won the Tor des Géants in 2016 (75:10) and again in 2019 (72:37:13) — the second time at age 50 and with a faster time than his first victory. He has also won the TOR-X twice, most recently in 2024, confirming his extraordinary longevity as an elite competitor well into his mid-fifties.
