About

Michael Selelo Saoli is a Kenyan mountain runner who competes for the Run2Gether team out of Austria and is a member of an extraordinary cohort of Kenyan athletes — alongside Patrick Kipngeno, Philemon Kiriago, and Paul Machoka — who have reshaped the landscape of world mountain running over the past three years. The Run2Gether programme has systematically identified and developed East African mountain running talent, producing multiple world champions and top-10 UTMB Index athletes simultaneously, and Saoli is one of its most consistent performers on the European mountain running circuit. He won the 32km Giir di Mont in Premana, Italy, in 2024 — one of the most competitive mountain races on the WMRA World Cup calendar, held on demanding Lecco Alpine terrain — and followed it with further wins and podiums across European events including a victory in Briançon. He finished sixth at the 2025 World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in the Classic 14k event and holds a UTMB Index of 948, placing him among the top ten male trail and mountain runners in the world. At a time when Kenyan runners are rewriting what is possible in mountain running, Saoli is one of the most consistent contributors to that revolution.
