About
Max King is an American ultrarunner born February 24, 1980, who stands apart from virtually every other athlete in the trail and ultra world for the sheer breadth of his accomplishments across disciplines and distances. He competed collegiately at Cornell University, earning All-American honours in the 3000m steeplechase and captaining the cross country and track teams, before transitioning to trail and ultra racing around 2008 while living in Bend, Oregon. King went on to win both the 2011 IAU World Mountain Running Championships and the 2014 IAU 100 km World Championships, where he set an American record of 6:27:00 — a performance that cemented his place as arguably the most versatile American runner of his generation. In addition to his international titles, he collected multiple USATF national championships across trail half marathon, trail marathon, and 50km distances, and was named UltraRunner of the Year and Mountain Runner of the Year on multiple occasions. Based in Bend, Oregon, with his wife Dory and their two children, King now directs trail running camps and coaches the next generation of mountain athletes through his Max King Trail Running Camp.
