Matthieu Saliou is a French engineer and trail runner who moved from France to Montreal in October 2021 to work on the city's REM rapid transit project, and discovered a passion for trail running after arriving in Quebec. In fewer than three years he rose to compete with the best in Canadian ultra running, placing 4th at the Ultra-Trail Harricana du Canada (UTHC) 125km in 2025, 2nd at the Quebec Mega Trail 135km, and 3rd at the QMT-110, closing a 15-minute gap in the final climbs. He holds a UTMB Index of 751. His rapid progression from recreational runner to competitive ultra elite — achieved while working full-time as an engineer — has made him a notable figure in the Quebec trail community.
