About

Mathieu Blanchard (born 3 December 1987 in Cavaillon, France) is a French-Canadian ultrarunner and adventurer based in Montréal who has built a career that spans elite mountain racing and extraordinary expedition-style feats. Raised in Guadeloupe, where he developed a deep love of the ocean and scuba diving, he studied engineering before immigrating to Canada, and it was in Montréal that he discovered trail running — beginning as a recreational pursuit around 2014 and accelerating into elite competition by 2016. On the UTMB stage he has twice stood on the men's podium: third in 2021 and second in 2022, when his time of 19:54:50 made him only the second person in history to finish UTMB in under 20 hours. In 2024 he won the Grand Raid de la Réunion - Diagonale des Fous, conquering 175 kilometres of Réunion Island's volcanic terrain in 23:25:00, and also won the MaXi-Race. In 2025 he became the first person ever to complete the Montane Yukon Arctic Ultra 600km on foot — 600 kilometres through the Yukon wilderness in deep winter — finishing in seven days and 22 hours, and placed second at the Hardrock 100. A Salomon-sponsored athlete who holds dual French and Canadian citizenship, Blanchard is trail running's most singular polymath: equally at home amid Mont Blanc granite and Yukon ice.
