About
Mary Denholm is an American runner who spent nearly a decade on the roads — improving her marathon personal record from 3:39 to 2:36 and qualifying twice for the Olympic Marathon Trials — before pivoting to ultrarunning in 2024. In August that year, in the first 100-mile race she had ever entered, she won the Leadville Trail 100 in 18:23:51, finishing more than three hours clear of the field and posting the second-fastest women's time in race history, behind only Ann Trason's 1994 mark. Ranked #7 in the 2024 UltraRunner of the Year vote, she transitioned to trail coaching under Matt Daniels and began competing at UTMB World Series events — representing one of the most dramatic and sudden career pivots in recent memory.
