About
Luke Grenfell-Shaw MBE FRGS is one of the most remarkable stories in modern trail running. Diagnosed with stage IV cancer at 24, he completed a Master's degree at Oxford and then cycled more than 20,000 miles from Bristol to Beijing while living with incurable cancer — raising £131,000 for cancer charities and earning the MBE for services to charitable fundraising. He turned to competitive trail running, winning his first ultra in Wicklow, Ireland, and a skyrunning race within two weeks. His biggest race victory came at the 2024 Val d'Aran by UTMB, which he won in 12:05:03 — 25 minutes ahead of second place — on the anniversary of his brother's death, making it one of the most emotionally charged wins in recent ultra history. He runs for Brooks and is also a filmmaker and author.
