Lucie Hanes

Lucie Hanes is an American ultrarunner, professional rock climber, journalist, and applied sports psychologist based in Grand Junction, Colorado. She grew up in Virginia whitewater kayaking, swimming, and hiking, discovered climbing through the University of Virginia Outdoors Club, and relocated to Colorado after college, living two minutes from trails on the Western Slope. She started running seriously in 2018 — famously the kid who once walked the mile test in high school — and progressed to elite ultra performance within five years. Her trail career broke through in 2021 with 6th at the Leadville Silver Rush 50M (8:46:08) and wins at the Valkyrie 50K and Ring the Springs 100K. The 2023 Leadville Trail 100 was her 100-mile debut; she finished 2nd in 23:16:51. She holds a Master's degree in Applied Sports Psychology from Adams State University and operates Inside Out Athlete, a mental performance counseling practice for endurance athletes. On the rock she has climbed at the 5.14a level in sport climbing. A SCARPA athlete, she also writes for Climbing Magazine, Trail Runner Magazine, and GearJunkie.
