About
Kyle Pietari is an American ultrarunner, litigator, and father based in Denver, Colorado — a triple identity he wears simultaneously and without apology. Originally from Duluth, Minnesota, he began running as an adult in 2011 and quickly developed into one of the most competitive mountain hundred-mile runners in the country, all while maintaining a full-time career as a trial lawyer. He trains primarily through a daily run commute to and from his Denver law office, a pragmatic solution to the scheduling constraints of professional and family life that has produced results rivalling full-time athletes. Pietari won the Run Rabbit Run 100 Mile in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and the Brazos Bend 100 (15:51:26), and placed second at the Leadville Trail 100 Mile twice (2015 and 2016). His most consistent arena has been the Western States 100, where he has finished in the top ten on four consecutive occasions — including a sixth-place overall finish in 2021 and a sub-16-hour run — cementing him as one of the most reliable performers at the event over that period. Pietari has also set an unofficial record for the fastest downhill mile on Lickskillet Road — reputedly the steepest county road in America — with a time of 3:46.
