About

Konoka Azumi is a Japanese ultrarunner and educator based in Auckland, New Zealand, whose remarkable athletic career bridges international triathlon and elite trail ultrarunning. Born in Japan, she competed at the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii in 2010 and 2015, won the Sado Island Long Distance International Triathlon for three consecutive years from 2017 to 2019, placed second overall in the ultra-distance triathlon Ultra 520 in Canada in 2017, and took bronze at the Asia-Oceania 100km Championships in Jordan in 2019. After relocating to New Zealand in late 2019, she transitioned fully to trail ultrarunning and rapidly became the dominant force in Australasian 100-mile racing, winning the Northburn 100-miler and South Island Ultramarathon before achieving the defining result of her trail career: winning the women's 100-mile race at the Tarawera Ultra-Trail by UTMB in 2024 in 18:24:53, more than 90 minutes clear of second place and 7th overall. She successfully defended the Tarawera Miler title in 2025. She competes on the UTMB World Series internationally and continues to work as an educator alongside her racing career.
