About
Kim Magnus is a Canadian trail and ultrarunner based in Vancouver, British Columbia, who relocated there from the Canadian prairies in 2008 and discovered trail running in 2012 after signing up for her first race that October. She wasted no time establishing herself: her debut 50-mile race, the 2014 Squamish 50 Mile, resulted in an outright win — an immediate statement in the competitive Canadian ultra scene. She went on to place second at the Canyons 100K, earning an automatic Western States 100 entry — one of only 11 women to earn that ticket in the competitive qualification field that year. In 2018 she represented Canada at the Trail World Championships in Penyagolosa, Spain, becoming the first Canadian to cross the finish line on the gruelling 85-kilometre course, completing it in 11 hours and 23 minutes. As invested in the community as she is in competition, Magnus has volunteered at and served on the committee of the iconic Knee Knacker North Shore Trail Run for years, taking over as Race Director — a role that reflects her commitment to growing the sport in British Columbia and beyond.
