About

Keith Knipling is one of the most prolific American ultrarunners of his generation — a Virginia-based athlete whose career since 1999 spans 277 completed events and more than 26,800 kilometres of competitive running. A proud member of the Virginia Happy Trail Running Club (VHTRC) based in Alexandria, Virginia, Knipling is best known for his mastery of demanding East Coast hundred-milers. He won the Old Dominion 100 Mile Cross Country Run in 2007 and has repeatedly contested its top positions across two decades. In 2006 he completed the Grand Slam of Ultrarunning — the Western States 100, Vermont 100, Leadville Trail 100, and Wasatch 100 in a single summer — demonstrating both his range and capacity to race consecutive hundred-milers at a high level. His most consistent performance arena may be the Massanutten Mountain Trails 100, where he has accumulated 24 finishes with a personal best of 22:42:21, an extraordinary record of sustained excellence on one of the toughest hundred-mile courses on the East Coast. He has also finished the HURT 100 in Hawaii eight times. Knipling's longevity and depth of results make him one of the most accomplished age-group hundred-mile runners in American ultrarunning history.
