About
Katie Wright is a British general practitioner and ultrarunner who became an international name in trail running after quietly relocating from Wales to New Zealand in 2018. She had previously run the entire perimeter of Wales and completed an Ironman before arriving in New Zealand, and immediately placed second at the Taupo 100km in her ultra debut in the country, then backed it up with a 2nd at the Tarawera 100-Mile behind Camille Herron. In 2019 she made history at the Riverhead Backyard Relaps in New Zealand, covering 201km in 30 hours to become the first woman ever to win a Last Person Standing-format event outright — defeating all male competitors — and earning a golden ticket to Lazarus Lake's Big's Backyard Ultra in Tennessee. A practising GP, she balances her medical career with elite racing and coaching through her Trail Athlete platform, helping runners of all abilities with training, strategy, and race nutrition.
