About

Katie Schide is one of the most accomplished trail and ultrarunning athletes of her generation, pairing an exceptional scientific mind with the physical and mental toughness to dominate the longest races in the sport. Born January 24, 1992, in Gardiner, Maine, she played field hockey in college and earned a geology degree from Middlebury College before completing a PhD in natural hazards at ETH Zurich in 2022, where her research focused on landslide susceptibility. She relocated to Saint-Dalmas-le-Selvage, France, in 2019, fully committing to the European mountain running scene. Her résumé is extraordinary: two-time UTMB Mont-Blanc champion (2022 and 2024, the latter in a course record 22:09:31), 2023 Western States 100 winner, and 2025 Hardrock 100 champion in a counterclockwise course record of 25:50:23 — the first woman ever to break 26 hours on that course. Schide trains with coaches Eszter Csillag and Fu-Zhao Xiang through CTS, and is widely regarded as the most complete big-mountain ultrarunner in the women's field.
