Karel Sabbe is a Belgian dentist and ultrarunner from Waregem who has balanced clinical practice with some of the most extraordinary endurance achievements of his generation. In 2023 he became the 17th person in history to finish the Barkley Marathons, completing all five brutal loops of the 100-mile race through Tennessee wilderness to become the first Belgian finisher. He has also set fastest known times on the Pacific Crest Trail, the Appalachian Trail (42 days in 2018), and the Te Araroa in New Zealand (2025, beating the previous record by 17 days). A World Backyard Ultra record holder and On-sponsored athlete, Sabbe embodies what amateur determination combined with elite-level execution can achieve.
