About
Judith Wyder is a Swiss orienteer, skyrunner, and trail runner whose extraordinary career spans two distinct world-class disciplines and one of sport's most courageous recoveries from life-threatening illness. Born June 25, 1988, in Zimmerwald in the canton of Bern, she learned to read orienteering maps by age seven and became one of the greatest orienteers in history: five-time world champion and six-time European champion, including a sweep of three gold medals at the 2014 World Orienteering Championships. In 2019 she turned her competitive attention to trail running and skyrunning, immediately dominating the prestigious Golden Trail World Series and winning its overall title — setting course records at the Ring of Steall Skyrace and DoloMyths Run, and finishing second at Sierre-Zinal. On Christmas Day 2019, Wyder suffered a stroke that caused permanent partial vision loss and severe memory challenges; she was initially given little hope of returning to professional sport. Her comeback was remarkable: she finished second in the Golden Trail World Series in both 2023 and 2024, claimed silver medals in both the individual and team events at the IAU Trail World Championships in 2023, and finished second at the UTMB OCC in 2024. Sponsored by HOKA and Red Bull, she co-runs Indurance GmbH — a coaching and trail running company — with her husband, and trains with the club ST Bern.
