About
Jorge Maravilla is an American ultrarunner, two-time U.S. National Trail Running Champion, and bilingual motivational speaker whose story bridges the immigrant experience, competitive excellence, and community advocacy. The son of a father who emigrated from El Salvador in pursuit of a better life, he grew up running the farmlands of the San Joaquin Valley in California and the track at his local elementary school, though it was not until around age 30 that the urge to push beyond the marathon drew him into trail and ultra distances. The progression was rapid: he moved from completing his first 50K as a personal challenge to winning 100-mile races and representing the United States at the international level. He won both the San Francisco Marathon and the Penghu Cross-Sea Marathon in Taiwan in 2017, and placed tenth at the CCC by UTMB the same year, establishing himself as a competitive force at both road and mountain events. His two U.S. National Trail Running Championships stand as the peak of his competitive achievements. A bilingual English-Spanish speaker, Maravilla serves as General Manager of the San Francisco Running Company and is a member of the Protect Our Winters Athlete Alliance, using his platform for climate advocacy. He describes himself as "the happiest man in ultrarunning," a disposition that has made him as prominent a community figure as a competitive one.
