Jonas Buud is a Swedish ultra-distance runner born on 28 March 1974 in Mora, central Sweden, regarded as one of the most decorated European ultrarunners of the 2000s and 2010s. A former orienteer who came to road and trail running comparatively late, he combined a rare blend of speed and endurance across distances from 78km Alpine classics to IAU 100km road championships. His most iconic achievement is the Swiss Alpine Marathon — a 78km race through the Alps — which he won for eight consecutive years between 2007 and 2014, one of the longest single-race dynasties in modern ultra history. On the international championship circuit, he won the IAU 100km European Championship in 2009 and 2010, finished runner-up at the IAU 100km World Championships in 2009, 2010, 2012, and 2014, and crowned his career by winning the IAU 100km World Championship outright in 2015. He placed second at the 2013 Comrades Marathon — the best result by a Swedish runner in the race's nearly century-long history — and finished second at the UTMB Mont-Blanc in 2012. He co-founded the UltraVasan 90k in his home region of central Sweden and won the inaugural 2014 edition, setting the course record of 5:45:08 the following year. An ASICS Frontrunner ambassador based in Mora, he has been Sweden's pre-eminent ultra ambassador for over a decade.
