About

John Melbourne is a British ultrarunner and coach who set the all-time record for the Centurion Running 100 Mile Grand Slam in 2019, completing the four-race series — the Thames Path 100, South Downs Way 100, North Downs Way 100, and Autumn 100 — in a combined finishing time of 61 hours, 38 minutes, and 17 seconds. His four individual splits — 14:58:46, 14:29:57, 17:07:55, and 15:01:39 — represent four separate hundred-mile finishes across a single calendar year, a demanding test of consistency and recovery as much as outright speed. The Centurion Grand Slam is one of British ultrarunning's most prestigious annual challenges, and Melbourne's 2019 aggregate set the benchmark for the format. He has since developed his career in coaching through Melbourne Ultra, his personal training and coaching practice, supporting athletes across the ultra distance spectrum.
