About
Joe Grant is a British-born mountain athlete, writer, and photographer who grew up in France and has spent his adult life on the high terrain of Colorado, building one of the most adventure-driven careers in trail and ultrarunning. Born in England and raised in the French Alps, he developed into an athlete of unusual range: capable of racing at the front of elite 100-mile events while equally driven by self-powered alpine adventures. His race résumé includes multiple Hardrock 100 starts — including a second-place finish in 2012 — UTMB and Western States 100 completions, a win at the Copper Canyon Ultramarathon, and the Iditarod Trail Invitational 350 in Alaska. Beyond racing, his self-powered adventures have most defined his profile: he set the unsupported FKT on Nolan's 14 — the roughly 100-mile traverse of 14 Sawatch Range 14,000-foot peaks — in 49 hours 38 minutes; holds an FKT on the Colorado Trail; and in 2016 completed the Tour de Fourteeners, linking all 57 Colorado fourteener summits under self-powered travel in 31 days, 8 hours, and 33 minutes, breaking the previous record by nearly three days. A contributor to iRunFar, he runs Alpine Works, his mountain running media and coaching platform, and is based in Durango, Colorado, sponsored by Scarpa, Black Diamond, and Arc'teryx.
