About

Jocelyne Pauly is a French physical education teacher, mother of two, and ultra-trail runner from Pau in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques who built one of the most decorated female careers on the European long-distance mountain ultra circuit across her thirties and forties. Born on 10 September 1973 in Oloron and introduced to trail running by her partner, she was competing at the highest level within a few years of taking up the sport in earnest. She won the Grand Raid des Pyrénées in 2015 (30:12), then in 2018 produced one of the most productive seasons in French women's ultra running — winning La Diagonale des Fous (28:54) and finishing third at the UTMB Mont-Blanc (26:15:11), behind Francesca Canepa and Uxue Fraile Azpeitia Azpeitia. In 2019 she finished second at the Tor des Géants 330km, one of the sport's most demanding multi-day mountain ultras through the Aosta Valley. She has continued competing at the front of the international field into her fifties, finishing fourth at the 2022 UTMB Mont-Blanc, third at the 2023 Eiger Ultra Trail E101 (14:41:45), and seventeenth at the 2023 Trail World Championships Long Trail. With a UTMB Index of 712, Pauly is one of the most consistently accomplished French women in the history of European long-distance trail running.
