About
Jiaju Zhao is a Chinese ultrarunner and Kailas FUGA team athlete who has been one of the pioneering forces behind China's emergence as a competitive trail running nation. At his peak he held an ITRA performance index of 904 — the highest of any competitor at the 2024 Hong Kong 100 — reflecting years of sustained elite mountain racing. He won the Mt. Fuji 100 in 2023 and in 2021 set a course record at Thailand by UTMB in 21:56:24, nearly five hours faster than the previous mark, in one of the most dominant performances ever recorded at that race. He has also placed as runner-up at the Hong Kong 100 and Ultra Gobi, and finished second at Chiang Mai Thailand by UTMB in 2025. Zhao is a key figure in China's first generation of internationally competitive trail runners, who brought Asian representation to the podiums of events long dominated by European and North American athletes.
