About
Jared Fetterolf is an American ultrarunner born on December 6, 1988, in Dallas, Texas, who came to distance running from collegiate tennis — he played D1 at Tyler Junior College and grew up at Center Point High School — after going for a two-mile run during a stressful freshman week and quickly becoming hooked on the endorphins. He ran his first 50-miler on December 6, 2008, his twentieth birthday, in 8:29. Developing a strong preference for the sport's longest races, he had completed 26 ultramarathons by his mid-twenties, more than half at 100 miles or longer, including the Pinhoti 100, The Bear 100, Javelina 100, and the gruelling McNaughton 150-miler. He placed second overall at the 2014 Rio del Lago 100 in 17:57:45 and third at the 2015 Headlands Hundred in 22:14:56. His landmark international result came in 2018 when he placed second overall at the Badwater Ultramarathon in Death Valley — 135 miles in 25:33:42 in temperatures approaching 50 degrees Celsius. He also won the 2016 Badwater Salton Sea 130km in 14:56:00, the 2013 Coyote Springs 100 Mile Trail Run, and the 2012 Rouge-Orleans 126-miler. A Spartathlon 2017 finisher (246km Athens-to-Sparta, 74th in 31:28:43), he has completed 53 events covering over 8,400km across his career.
