About

Jared Campbell is the most storied finisher in Barkley Marathons history — a mechanical engineer from Salt Lake City who completed the near-mythical Tennessee race three times (2012, 2014, and 2016), making him the first and only person to accomplish that feat, and who has spent his career transforming Utah's Wasatch Mountains into the canvas for increasingly ambitious mountain endurance projects. He grew up at the foot of Mount Olympus in Olympus Cove, Utah, earned a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Utah, and won the Hardrock 100 in 2010 before his Barkley exploits made him a folk hero of the endurance world. In 2004 he created the Wasatch Ultimate Ridge Linkup — a 36-mile, 18,000-foot linkup of 21 Wasatch peaks that has since become one of the iconic mountain objectives in the American west — and has accumulated dozens of first ascents and exploratory routes in the region. He founded Running Up For Air in 2012, a global endurance race series raising awareness and funds for clean-air initiatives, and balances his athletic life with a career in venture capital.
