About
Ian Sharman is one of the most decorated American ultramarathon runners of the 2010s — a British-born former software engineer who emigrated from London, settled in Bend, Oregon, and quietly built one of the most remarkable 100-mile résumés in the history of the sport. He won the Leadville Trail 100 four times (2013, 2015, 2016, 2017) and in 2013 set the Grand Slam of Ultrarunning record — completing Western States, Vermont 100, Leadville, and Wasatch Front in a combined 69 hours and 49 minutes, a record that stood for years. His consistency at the Western States 100 borders on extraordinary: nine top-10 finishes over a career spanning more than a decade, and the unique distinction of completing the race ten times with a combined total of under one week. Sharman twice won the USATF 100-mile trail championship and holds the fastest verified trail 100-mile time in the US at 12:44. He has since built a second career as a respected coach through Sharman Ultra Coaching, a columnist for Ultra Running Magazine, and a podcast host, making him one of the sport's most influential ambassadors beyond the competitive arena.
