About
Haroldas "Harry" Subertas is a Lithuanian-born ultrarunner, mountaineer, and environmental scientist based in Haines, Alaska, who has established himself as one of the most dominant forces in American 200-plus-mile racing. Born in Kaunas, Lithuania, he moved to the United States just before his 18th birthday, eventually settling in Southeast Alaska after completing a semester-long mountaineering course at the University of Southeast Alaska in Juneau — a programme that led directly to seven years as a professional mountain guide, including ascents of Denali and Aconcagua. He returned to university in 2021 to earn his environmental science degree. His entry into ultrarunning came through a 100-mile race in Kentucky in 2017, and within a few years he became a dominant force in the American ultra scene. In 2024 he ran four 200-plus-mile races, winning both the Tahoe 200 and the Cocodona 250 — setting a course record at the latter in 59:50:55 — and was named the #8 men's UltraRunner of the Year. He also won the 2023 Susitna 100 and in 2021 covered 108 miles in 24 hours to win the Alaska Endurance Trail Run in Fairbanks. Subertas represents a rare combination of elite guiding experience, academic environmental science, and world-class multi-day racing.
