About
Fernando De Samaniego Steta is a Mexican trail runner and ultramarathon competitor who has raced across the North American ultra circuit from Mexico to California for over a decade, competing in UTMB World Series events and major domestic races while serving as one of Mexico's more visible representatives in the American trail running community. His competitive résumé includes a third-place finish at the Canyons 100K — the race in the Auburn, California foothills that has served as a gateway to Western States for generations of American and international runners — and results at the Ultra-Trail de México, the premier trail racing event on the Mexican circuit. In July 2020, alongside fellow ultrarunner YiOu Wang, he set the mixed-team Fastest Known Time on the Rae Lakes Loop in California's Sierra Nevada, a 41-mile high-altitude circuit through the Kings Canyon backcountry that demands both technical trail movement and tolerance for elevation. A photographer and observer within the broader ultrarunning community as well as a competitor, De Samaniego Steta has been a consistent presence at North American events and a thoughtful representative of Mexican trail running at the international level.
