About
Evan Honeyfield is an American ultrarunner from the high desert of Idaho who was among the more quietly competitive men on the American 50-mile and 100-mile circuit in the early 2010s, combining a talent for desert and mountain terrain with a willingness to take on Fastest Known Time efforts in the mountain ranges of the Intermountain West. In September 2009 he completed the Teton Circumnavigation route in Wyoming in 5 hours, 34 minutes, and 31 seconds — a Fastest Known Time at the time — and over the following two seasons established himself as a podium threat at the major regional events in the Mountain West: he won both the Hurl Elkhorn 50 Mile and the Bighorn Mountain Trail Run 50M in 2011 and posted second-place finishes at the Bear 100 in 2010 and the Javelina Jundred in 2011. Sponsored by UltrAspire and racing with an efficient, low-profile approach to the sport, Honeyfield was also a contributing writer for iRunFar, bringing an articulate insider's perspective to the sport as both competitor and observer. Based in Idaho's high desert landscape — one of the more demanding training environments in American ultrarunning for its combination of heat, altitude, and distance from major race circuits — he built a body of work across desert and mountain terrain that represented the quieter side of early-2010s American ultra racing.
