About
Emma Stuart is an Irish large-animal veterinary surgeon based in Penrith in the English Lake District who only took up running in 2018 and within five years had won some of trail running's most demanding mountain ultras. She works full-time as a farm vet and trains in the Cumbrian fells, a landscape that shaped her into a technically confident and weather-hardened mountain runner. Her victories span a wide range of formats — the Lakeland 50, the Lakeland 100, the Arc of Attrition 100 Mile, and the Ultra-Trail Snowdonia by UTMB 100k — before, in 2023, she ran for 82 consecutive hours through the Italian Alps to win the Tor des Géants 330km, the result that earned her a shortlisting for Woman of the Year in Ireland. A SCARPA-sponsored athlete, Stuart is one of the most compelling examples in the sport of what depth of character, rather than years of competitive experience, can achieve.
