About

Elisabet Barnes is a Swedish-born ultrarunner born on 13 April 1977 who grew up in Sweden, relocated to England in 2007, and began competitive running in 2011 after a career in management consulting. A specialist in self-supported multi-stage desert races, she is best known for winning the Marathon des Sables twice — in 2015, winning every single stage, and again in 2017 — cementing herself as the dominant female desert ultrarunner of that era. She has also won the Oman Desert Marathon, the Ultra Mirage El Djerid in Tunisia, the Coastal Challenge in Costa Rica, and the Everest Trail Race. She holds a PhD and operates as a full-time coach through the UltraCoach platform.
