About
Denise "Tiny d" Bourassa is an American ultrarunner and operating room nurse from Bend, Oregon, widely celebrated as one of the sport's great examples of age-group excellence. She began running marathons at 29 and entered her first ultramarathon — the McKenzie River Trail Run 50K — at 39 in 2008, winning outright. She went on to set the women's masters record for the Grand Slam of Ultrarunning in 2014 at age 44, completing it with the fourth-fastest women's time in the Slam's then-28-year history. After turning 45 she continued winning major ultras: HURT 100 Mile, Ice Age 50 Mile, Pinhoti 100 Mile, and San Diego 100, among more than 19 100-mile finishes. She serves as operating room manager at St. Charles Bend hospital. Known affectionately as Tiny d, Bourassa is a widely admired figure who demonstrates that ultrarunning performance can deepen substantially with age.
