About
Cyril Cointre is a French trail runner, adventurer, race organizer, and environmental advocate who was among the leading French ultra trail competitors of the early 2010s before transitioning into race organization and the promotion of low-impact outdoor sport. Before establishing himself as a trail runner, between 2005 and 2007 he completed a bicycle world tour lasting more than two years, visiting 22 countries and climbing the highest point of each — including Mont Blanc, Kilimanjaro, Aconcagua, and Everest. On the race course he placed 5th at the UTMB in 2010, won the Ultra Trail du Vercors in 2013, placed 4th at the World Multi-Sport Racing Championships in 2012, finished 2nd at the TDS (Sur les Traces des Ducs de Savoie) in 2015, and accumulated 5th place in the overall 2015 Ultra-Trail World Tour standings. He became the first runner to complete all twelve races on the Ultra-Trail World Tour circuit, an achievement requiring competition across five continents. As a race organizer, he is a founding partner of the MaXi-Race World series. He and his partner Laura Garnier-Cointre have climbed the Matterhorn and Ama Dablam in Nepal together. Cointre is a founding voice of the 'Wildinism' philosophy — a movement for outdoor sport practised without carbon footprint or commercial apparatus — and continues to shape how the trail community engages with its environmental responsibility.
