About

Chris Hammes is an American trail ultrarunner who announced himself on the global stage in 2019 as the first American to finish the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc, the sport's most iconic 170km mountain race around the Mont Blanc massif. That breakthrough result, earned in one of the deepest international fields the race had ever assembled, established Hammes as one of the United States' most capable big-mountain runners at 100-mile distance. He reinforced that reputation on home soil by winning the 2024 High Lonesome 100 Mile in Colorado in a time of 20:16:25 — the second-fastest finish in the race's history. The High Lonesome 100 is a rugged, partially self-supported 100-miler at altitude in Colorado's Sawatch Range, widely regarded as one of the most demanding 100-mile races in North America for its remote terrain and sustained technical climbing. His UTMB Index of 790 places him among the sport's top 100-mile mountain specialists, and he remains a consistent front-runner at the events he enters.
