About
Cesare Maestri is an Italian mountain runner born on November 12, 1993, in Trentino, who lives in the small village of Borgo Lares and works as a renewable energy engineer — a parallel professional career that gives him an unusually analytical perspective on the physiological demands of elite competition. He began running relatively late, at 17–18 years old, after years of cross-country skiing and cycling, guided into serious competition by his first coach Marco Borsari. A Nike-supported athlete and member of the Italian National Mountain Running team, Maestri won the World Snowshoe Championships in 2019, earned silver at the 2019 World Mountain Running Championships, and bronze at the 2018 European Mountain Running Championships, along with two Italian national senior titles. He finished 11th at the 2025 World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in the Classic 14km event. One of the sport’s most thoughtful and methodically prepared athletes, Maestri competes under the Instagram handle @cecemaestri and is one of the most respected figures in the Italian mountain running community.
