About
Camelia Mayfield is an American trail and ultrarunner from Ashland, Oregon, who grew up running the ridges of the Rogue Valley and following her father on his ultra marathon adventures across the Pacific Northwest before becoming one of the more decorated American women of her generation at the 50-mile and 100-mile distances. A standout NCAA Division I track athlete at Portland State University — where she competed in the 5,000m and 10,000m and was persuaded to stay for a fifth year — she transitioned to road marathoning before qualifying for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials at the California International Marathon and representing the United States at the 2016 World Long Distance Mountain Running Championships. Her transition to trail ultras crystallised in 2018, when she placed third at the Lake Sonoma 50 Mile and, after one of the top two finishers declined, earned a golden ticket to Western States 100. She ran her debut 100-miler at Western States in 2018, placing 7th in one of the sport's most competitive women's fields — incidentally finishing faster than her own father's 1992 result. She returned in 2019 to place 5th, shaving over 90 minutes off her debut time to finish in 18:13:31 (22nd overall out of 319 starters). Based in Bend, Oregon, Mayfield works as a social worker and coaches runners through Trails & Tarmac coaching services.
